I feel like shouting from the rooftops! Do you know that God is good? He really is. All the time. Not just when things go in a way that seems right to us. Always, and in every situation – He is good. Over a year ago we were waiting for approval on our adoption paperwork. We assumed that we would face the usual wait – nothing out of the ordinary.
Well, God had other plans. I will not lie and say that there were not times of confusion, anger, and grief over the last year plus. We weren’t sure at all what God was doing – whether or not Levi was really meant to be part of our family. We never felt like we should give up, but we wondered if God was going to shut the door and that would be the end of that.
In that year, I know how much the Lord has worked on in me. It has been tough, but I look back and see wonderful work that God has accomplished. As much as I hate to admit it, I am much more pliable to God’s work in my life when things are tough. Are you that way too? In the past year the girls have also grown in many ways. Yes, they are taller – but, more importantly they are more secure in our love for them. They are more settled and accustomed to life in this country and in our home.
In October 2009, Lisa had traveled to India just before our paperwork was sent to India. She visited Levi and came back concerned for us that he seemed very hyper – kind of out of control. We gave that some thought, but considered the fact that her visit and the whole group of kids being excited about that probably led to some of that behavior.
Fast forward to this Monday, January 24, 2011 when Lisa was able to visit with Levi. She met him in a room all by himself. (The pictures I have attached are from this recent visit.) She said that she was amazed when he spoke to her in English and asked her if she was there to tell him that he had a family. She said yes, and she said that she has never seen a child so happy to hear that he has a family. She said that he then asked her if she had pictures. She said yes, and gave them to him. She said that he was so happy to see the photos. He then asked her if he was going to get on a plane and come to his new home. He couldn’t wait to show his photos to his friends.
Lisa said that she was surprised at how tall he had grown in the last year. She also said that he was very calm and well behaved. She said that he asked her if she was hungry and when she said no, he asked her if she would like something to drink. She said he was so sweet. In addition to speaking Hindi and English, she said that he was singing songs with the other kids in French. When I said how shocked I was that he could speak English, she said that they had been sending him to a really good school where he was learning English. That will make things so much easier for our transition if he can speak English!
Lisa said that she was as surprised as I was to hear that our case was in court. Not only that, we have already passed the first court date and our next court date for Arguments will be on February 7!! – and the sisters said we should pray for that appearance. Lisa is as confused as we are that our case was already in court when we thought we were just waiting for approval and our NOC. (No Objection Certificate – something that you must have before you go to court.) Lisa said that things seem to go very quickly with this orphanage and that we should plan to travel in March or April!!! The only thing that could slow it down is if the judge asks for updated paperwork, but that should not be much of an issue.
Please join us in giving God all the glory. The girls are so excited to meet their brother. It has been fun to see them join in with us as we have prayed for Levi and for them to see God answer. Thank you again for sharing our joy with us!! We will keep you posted as we see what happens with our court date on February 7.
Much love, Lori
